INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Thousands of union members took to the Super Bowl Village and downtown Indianapolis to protest the state senate’s passage of the controversial right to work bill Wednesday.
Video from Chopper 8 showed the massive crowd pouring out of the statehouse as they took their protest outside. The group rallied on the statehouse steps before leaving for a march through the Super Bowl Village.
At the statehouse, union members, chanting and singing, demanded the names of the Senators who voted for the bill saying the will become targets in the November elections.
Senator Vi Simpson spoke on the Statehouse steps saying “We lost this battle, but the next battle is November of 2012.”
Other Democrats stepped outside to encourage the protesters to continue their fight against the bill.
The crowd then made its way to Georgia Street and marched, chanting, through the Super Bowl Village.

@fortheride; well, yes, in effect, the people did speak, even if only through the representatives elected to make policy for us. And I personally had no problem whatsoever with allowing all of Indiana`s citizens to vote. Especially since everyone must show a valid photo ID now, because, this would have turned out exactly the same, RTW would have become law that way as well. It was simply time for RTW.

Union thugs- Well documented to be threatening to disrupt the superbowl Union Thugs- So what was that at the man's home? Christmas carols? See, Coast Guard to secure port in union dispute. See youtube: FEsdxakaBIo SEIU harass at a mans home. Union Thugs- cutting the brake lines on locomotives in the same union vs union greed fest that needed the coast guard.
Unfortunately this forum doesn't offer the opportunity for a proper rebuttal and the cowards at WISH will not address the issue. No matter.
THug unions. The statement stands. Neighbors? Brett Kimberlin was someones neighbor to you know.

Publius, where do you come up with this stuff? Union thugs? really? no those are your neighbors. And we dont have to bus anyone in from out of state however there are instances that out of state locals send support. Chicago would have an interest here because of shared border. Their isnt any paying for my job, or to hold my job. I have to work for that job, and if we dont perform we get replaced. U all have terribly misled ideas about unions.
Publius | February 2 2012 9:23am
to bburgbill - you didnt see anyone "out there" at the Statehouse in support of RTW because what RTW does is even the playing field for ALL HOOSIERS. What you saw at the Statehouse were the union thugs that have used the unions to extort higher wages and benefits for their work efforts - they have something to lose - so the Union paid for their participation. Who do you think paid for those buses from Chicago? Required Union dues payments to an ingrained Union management to hold a job is not fair to ALL the PEOPLE. A Required payment to a Politician for a political position has long been illegal - it is about time that Required payments to Unions for union positions is too illegal.

Where is the "balanced journalism" on this topic? Everything I have seen has been pro-union. Yet, clearly, the majority of Hoosiers has put people into the Statehouse who would support RTW. Please show both sides.

Unions had their place in time and history, but that is going away. If you want to be in a union that is fine, but why should someone be forced to be in one. I was raised in a house where my father was forced to be in a union - and every year he got is nickel raise and we had terrible insurance and it laid off four or five times. That union did nothing for our family. Then the company closed and moved to Mexico. Needless to say the next job my dad got he made sure there was no union. Union011 you are a hard core union guy and you are completly unable to see the other side of the argument, and I have worked in factories and warehouses for good companies which is the key. If you are working for bad or unsafe company, go somewhere else, go to HR, call OSHA - and yes this works. When you approach an issue with reason and logic problems get resolved. It is unbelieveable how the anit-RTWer's are acting like Hoffa led union workers from the 40's - violently upset. This sure isn't helping your cause.

Im also puzzled by all these people seeming to be on the victorius side of RTW. I never saw anyone clamoring for RTW. Never saw anyone standing at the statehouse Chanting for RTW. Never saw anyone mention it when asked about important issues they would like the gov't to address. HMMMM?????? Didnt see one single soul out there supporting the republicans and RTW. No signs with Indiana needs RTW. Guess that speaks volumes for both sides and the truth behind RTW.
