Right to Work on fast track thru senate

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — The right to work bill will be signed into law before the Super Bowl, if GOP leaders in the Indiana General Assembly get their way. The bill has been put on a fast track designed to end with a final Senate vote on the right to work bill next Wednesday.

"There shouldn't be much to talk about," says Senate President pro tem David Long. "It should be a fairly smooth process."

It's all about ending the Statehouse protests before the Super Bowl. "The concerns about action during the Super Bowl have now become bona fide threats, open," says House Speaker Brian Bosma.

Democrats object but, in the Senate, there are too few of them to break a quorum and derail the plan which the minority leader calls shameful.

"I think there's an effort to shut down debate and dissent," says Sen. Vi Simpson, "and get these people out of the Statehouse and that's too bad."

Labor leaders, meantime, dodge questions about potential Super Bowl disruptions. "Our focus right now is on defeating this legislation," says Nancy Guyott of the AFL-CIO.

Meantime, there's word the White House is interested in this right to work battle. 24-Hour News 8 has learned that Vice President Joe Biden attempted to reach House minority leader Pat Bauer yesterday to offer his support for what was then a Democratic walkout. Bauer says he didn't take the call because he had already decided to end the walkout.

Whats dishonorable about displaying your displeasure when people are trying to cut the amount of income you earn? If you don't mind that, maybe you should give me 25% of your income? Union isnt about market value, its about standard of living, if union doesnt exist everyone would be making minimum wage. read a history book, learn where the 8 hour day and the 40 hour work week came from. Then look at china, its the largest non union workforce in the world, Theres a vast majority of china thats a 3rd world country. Or go to detroit see what happens when they ship jobs out for cheap labor or use robots instead of people. did cars get any cheaper? Where did those profits go? Unions dont belong everywhere, but they belong in a huge way.

This whole thing is really a shame. The unions have brought this on themselves. At one time most unions were honorable organizations with honorable goals. A few still are. Unfortunately, too many unions have gone far beyond those honorable goals and degraded themselves to the level of extortion and liberal political activism. It is becoming increasingly clear that the country will no longer tolerate their interference. There may very well be some negative effects to some workers because of this bill. I tend to believe the majority of those effects will only be to those that are being compensated above their market value anyway. Yes, some companies may choose to take advantage of this law in an attempt to be unfair to some employees. Those are the cases where an honorable union could be useful. Too bad the dishonorable ones may have destroyed their ability to do it.
