Creationism clears Ind. committee

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — An Indiana legislative committee has endorsed a bill that would specifically allow the state's public schools to teach creationism in science classes.

The Senate Education Committee voted 8-2 Wednesday to send the proposal to the full Senate.

Committee Chairman Dennis Kruse of Auburn says he sponsored the bill because he believes creationism should be taught among the theories on the development of life. He says the bill would make the teaching of creationism along with evolution an option and not a requirement for school districts.

Purdue University science education professor John Staver told the committee that teaching creationism is clearly unconstitutional and that all the people of Indiana will get from the proposal are legal bills and wasted effort.

LOL@ indyreader....no, we simply do not see evolution happening today, because it never happened, at any time, ever. It`s frightening how easy it is to fill some peoples minds with a myth, and they parrot the rhetoric they`re spoon-fed. What a shame.

LOL@lp22........you have no basis for your silly claims. Evolution is a myth and has zero factual support.

@nocoltsfan... Quoting Robert Pirsig means absolutely nothing. You act like hes a somebody. People have made stuid agruments on both sides of this debate, I agree with that. But your the classic Darwinist who spouts his mouth off without any back up, just because you were 'taught' or 'read' something. Read your paragraph. Your basically saying religion is dumb and evolution rules... because I said so. LOL. PLease refer to my post to @LP22... you fit in the same category. You can sit there and rant all you want. You fail to respond to any of the solid arguments I put out there, hence, trying to change the topic and reverting to calling anyone who thinks otherwise stupid. Quit typing stuff with no logical true argument to back it up.

“When one person suffers from delusion, it is called insanity. When many people suffer from delusion it is called religion.” Robert M.Pirsig Evolution is a fairytale?????? Really? And I'm sure that the particular man-made religion that these fools were born into has to be true. The level of stupidity on this webside is remarkable. Not only do these pious idiots know nothing about science, I am sure that they don't even know anything about their book of fairytales, otherwise known as the bible.

creationism and evolution is what happend in the start and from that point forward.

@LP22-- take your own advice. Your talking like you know what your saying, I'm sure most of which was just looked up on Wikipedia. No one is saying to force a specific religion down kids throats. Its the idea that the universe could have been "created" by a power greater than anyone is currently capable of conceiving or understanding, or, GOD. What everyone seems to be misunderstanding is this is the teaching of CREATION. Evolution and Creation are two seperate things. There is absolutely NO proof of 'Creation by Evolution'. It can be seen as a religion just the same as anything else. No one has a clue how the first life form would have came to be to start the evolutionary chain. Scientists conveniently start the story as if life already existed.. they skip how it started to begin with. As I stated in an earlier post... go watch a sterile pile of dirt until it forms a new piece of life for no reason... then well talk. Also, Evolution in many cases does take considerable time, but its not a requirement. Natural selection and parts of evolution can happen in a timeline's blink of an eye. People like you who get on here and spout big words without proper background knowledge ruin legitamate arguments. Just because you had a class or read something on the internet doesn't make you all knowing. Think before you talk. No one can 'prove' how life began to begin with. The difference in cr

It is about time they are going sending a bill to allow Creationism to be taught! I wish it was required. I am not going to debate it here, but a good website to look at to better understand why the theory of evolution is so inaccurate is: http://www.answersingenesis.org/. Respectfully, Patty

I'd accept this, as long as they treat it the way other outdated beliefs are treated--more within the Humanities field than Science. We teach ancient Greek Mythology in many schools, but not as a viable way of viewing the world. Creationism belongs in the same bracket.

Hunter, go read a book. Of course you don't see signs of species changing, it takes thousands to millions of years, unless you're an insect and we have seen speciation in some varieties of butterfly among other things. Seriously, don't comment on something you know nothing about, and that goes for all god people. I read the bible, even attended a bible class so I can rightfully criticize it and know what I'm talking about. You should do the same. Creationism is religion at best and blind superstition at worst and it doesn't belong in a public school getting crammed down our kid's throats.

Wonderful bill, and it`s overdue. Evolution is such a joke, how could anyone believe that junk? While it`s true that some species do indeed change and adapt, i.e., the bugs that we need antibiotics for, there is no sign of any new species appearing. Nor any sign of major changes in any existing species, such as replacing gills with lungs, as the evolutionists would like you to believe happened. As I`ve heard Dr. Lutzer say, it`s hard to understand how anyone can believe that nothing times nothing equals everything, that out of some cosmic soup humans were born. There is a liberal agenda, that is insidious and dangerous, and it is, without a doubt, the biggest threat to our country and to the world. This agenda has worked to force God from the public square, has worked to revise history, taking our theological roots out of the founding of this nation, and is wrecking the traditional American family. The most ironic part of all this, is, as this liberal agenda wrecks the American family, which undermines the foundation of this society, the people who are wrecking it, throw the blame on Christians. Christians attempt to preserve traditional marriage as much as possible, while liberals are doing everything in their power to ensure that no such thing as traditional marriage exists. This is a wonderful bill, and just wait until you hear the liberals howl, about what redneck, backwards hilljacks we`ll look like. THAT is how you know you`re going in the right direction, when the liberals are weeping and wailing and gnashing teeth.
