INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — A Republican-dominated Indiana Senate committee endorsed the right-to-work bill that has prompted a three-day standstill in the Indiana House.
The Senate labor committee voted 6-4 to send the bill to the full Senate, where the GOP holds a 37-13 majority and the party's leader has made its passage a top priority. The bill would prohibit contracts between companies and unions that require workers to pay representation fees.
Minutes after that vote, the House again was unable to convene as most Democrats stayed away in protest of the proposal.
Republican Sen. Brent Waltz of Greenwood joined the committee's three Democrats in voting against the bill. During testimony, Waltz question experts who back the proposal, saying he is not convinced of the measure's economic benefits.

Well put Miko4563. The reasons companies have left the country is for 60 cents an hour labor.

Okay, I actually read the bill and all of its amendments. Actually finding all of it was very hard which in my mind makes it imediatly suspect. I was right. The wording and very core is to reduce union power by giving away union benefits for free. A very common goal of the uber rich. If unions are strangled and run of then all thier benefits greedy or useful won't be there anymore. This means wages will fall with the number of qualified people to do the job. An example of this is an airplane manufacturer in this state moved to a " Right To Work " state. In doing so they lowered thier wages for most employees. At the same time let go of higher paid employees i.e. the trained and certified mechanics and engineers. This resulted in a ratio of 1:6 trained and certified to unskilled. The former ratio was 1:2. So thes aircraft are being built by using 1 third the skilled labor as before. yes this hires more people at less pay and benefits(which union dues paid) and saved people at the top of this company millions possibly billions over time. Meanwhile trained and certified employees have more responsibility and less pay/benefits while airplanes are built with 2/3rds increased possibility for error. Thats only one example of one company that actually stayed in the US. The ones who move to China or over seas not only practice this theology to the extreme but also for-go EPA and all labor restriction. The only "people" who bennefit from this would be the uber rich. By uber rich I DO NOT mean people who have kept thier dream alive here and have been paying fair wages and benefits to thier employees while becoming wealthy i.e. millon or billionaires and paying what dues and taxes are required while using creative accounting. Everyone does the "creative" accounting at all level of income. The "people" I speak of are at the top with no possibility of being broke Rothchilds and the rest of thr private sector that owns our Federal Reserve. The working man in our country is being assaulted from all angles. Public Education has been assaulted for decades. Insurance has rose to epic propotions while helping as litlle as they can, bankruption is 2 to1 caused by medical illness. Our military has grown 50% on the backs of children of the poor being targeted for recrutment. 30,000 "American" companies have thier base of operations or manufacturing over seas.By the way I have never had a union job and I have spent the last 27 years living in a right to work state. Stop electing the same old people to the same old government jobs. Ask big government to cut thier benefits, staff and percs. Demand that they go first. I mean on every level form city to federal. Richt now only corperations and the uber rich elect our officials.Money is the mian driver in every election and when someone is poor they have no power.Keeping people poor and sick and fearful of government is how the upper wealth of this country controls what is written into law and what they think is fair. The unions are the last line of defense the few who get fiar wage and benne fits have. All the facts are in front of us and week can change it if we stick togethe without the greed and jealousy of some of the ruling class.

If you believe unions are bringing down this country then I agree that the term sheeple applies to you. Unions are necessary as far as providing a group of people with a specific set of skills for a many different types of industries. You pay dues to offset the cost of your insurance, schooling and a pension for when you retire. Would you rather sacrifice say the safety of your family in an elevator that was put in by someone that had never put one in before?
I worked for a company last year, because of how there company is set up they did not have to pay any overtime. So I worked 7 days and 80 hours a week. People that worked for the same company, who I worked with and they had the same set of skills as me were making 4 1/2 times the money of what I was making. I guess what I am saying is it should be a choice. By choice it should be put to a vote by the people and not by our legislatures.
Have you ever noticed what we want and what the goverment want we never get a vote on it. In closing I am a registered voter, a veteran and a union laborer. I have a high school diploma and comprehend most things that put before me. If you truley feel that "Right To Work" is what this state needs. Then you and all of you down at the Indiana State House will not mind if I do your taxes. No I am not a CPA but I will do my best and not charge you as much as someone with that specific skill who went to night school. ONE HELL OF A DEAL I Guarrantee it will be!

WOW! After reading these posts, what I surmise is that union members either will not or cannot read a dictionary, concerning the word 'greed'.
The greediest are the unions themselves forcing people who took major financial risks, worked there rears off, gave up family time to make a better life for their families and communites and then some disgruntled non starter who works for the aforementioned gets class envy going and forces the company union, most of the time against the company wishes. Yes, you union workers, pick up a dictionary and open your minds around 'greed' and big labor.
Hey, union zombie sheep, your unions do nothing for you, they take from you,you the person doing the work, unions do not produce, market or invent anything. They take from the productive and punish the business. And union zombie sheep want to cry about business running offshore??????

union members don't want rtw because their artifical wages and benefits will go down to something more in line with a competive wage. If you have a product and you are asking too much for it, the customer will go somewhere else ! If your worth $12.00 an hour thats what you should be paid - that just real life - no you can not live on it.

There are so many facts showing why we shoul go RTW that I can not even understand why anyone is fighting it. It appears the only people fighting it are hardcore union employees and their families. Unions have become just a way to depleat employees of money while providing little to no services in return. If someone doesn't want to join/pay union dues they should have that right. The protestors who are saying this is bad for Indiana, need to review the facts.

Right-to-work is NOT good for Indiana it is very sad that Republicans are not putting the people of Indiana first. The republicans are using this bully tactic to push through legislature which will lower pay and give the employers the ability NOT to give workers of Indiana necessary benefits. Another Mitch Daniels move which HURTS the people of Indiana.

The Union Is THE PEOPLE!! It is not a seperate entity. A union company is union because the workers voted it in, and they can vote it out. Unions have dues because it costs to manage the benefits. They usually handle the pension and health insurance instead of the company thus reducing their overhead. The wages are negotiated contracts so if one side gets too much the whole deal fails! The purpose of the union is to maintain some form of discipline in capitalism. People have to make money, to live, eat, buy things, vacations. These are the things that drive economy. Coporates are making huge profits with huge tax loopholes and paying less for labor. In any good economy, the people have money. Read a newspaper or turn on the tv, its right in front of you. If you dont want to be union then dont be, its that simple. But i guess there are always people who want something for nothing, the right to work people. Think you are gonna have the good job and benefits the union provide without paying dues? I guess you believe its all just the good will of the company? China, largest non union workforce in the world, go look what the vast majority of it looks like. its gonna be your neighborhood.

Friday, Fred Morgan, president of The State Chamber of Oklahoma, said in the first six months after Oklahoma residents approved the law by referendum, the state went from 40th to first in new job creation. The state now ranks 33rd in per capita income jumping from 43rd in the past decade.
So it took a whole decade for Oklahoma to jump 10 spots out of 50. And this is what we have to look forward to in the next 10 years for a few low paying jobs ? What a joke and you SHEEPLE fell for it hands down. HAHAHAHAHAHA ! I HOPE YOU GET WHAT YOU ASKED FOR .
