Pence pick for RNC committeewoman expected soon

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Gov. Mike Pence still has one big-name pick to announce atop the state party: RNC committeewoman.

The position as Indiana's female member of the national committee is a much-sought after prize. Former committeewoman Dee Dee Benkie turned the position into a job as a national conservative pundit.

But the job can also demand a lot of out-of-state travel. Former Lt. Gov. Becky Skillman announced she was leaving the position to focus on her job as a regional economic development leader.

Pence announced Wednesday he had picked Auditor Tim Berry to serve as party chairman and his campaign manager to serve as the party's executive director.

Members of the party's executive committee are expected to vote on the governor's picks at a July 22 meeting.
