Governor’s office closed for the day

The governor’s office was closed Friday.  The door to Room 206 in the Statehouse was locked and the lights were off.  It’s not a state holiday.

A sign was posted in the window.  It said simply that the office will be closed for out of office staff meetings.  Friday afternoon the  communications director for Governor Mike Pence responded to questions with an email that was just as cryptic.  It says “The Governor, Lt. Governor and their executive staffs are attending a previously scheduled planning session off-site today.”  Nothing more.

It’s been a hot topic on social media, with, among others, former aides to Mitch Daniels posing questions.  It may not be a big deal but in politics appearances count, and the consensus at the Statehouse today was that this didn’t look good.

I am encouraged that the governor and his staff are taking time to meet, plan, or brainstorm new ideas. Probably something that should be tried in Washington. Going away for an off site meeting is not a new idea and used often in the private sector. I am a little concerned about the way this article is almost appears as if Mr. Shella is trying to create an atmosphere of doubt. I think Mr. Shella is a good reporter; I hope he will just report the news and let us make our own determinations.
