Bill would require K-9 replacement fee

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — A bill to increase the penalty for injuring police dogs is one step closer to becoming a law.

The house voted unanimously Tuesday afternoon on a bill that would require a person convicted of seriously injuring or killing a police dog pay for a replacement.

The accused may also be required to pay the veterinarian expenses.

Police dogs cost anywhere between $12,000 and $15,000.

This after Anderson Police dogs were killed in the line of duty this summer.

The bill will now move on to the Senate.
