Donnelly’s Lead Shrinks

Republicans hope to win back control of Congress in next week’s election and Indiana’s 2nd District Congressional seat now held by Democrat Joe Donnelly could be a key race.

Three Indiana Congressional Districts, all held by Democrats, were targeted by the Republicans this year. They are the 2nd, the 8th, and the 9th Districts. The 2nd is considered a bellwether. That means as it goes, so goes Congress and the race there is getting tighter.

The WISH-TV Indiana 2010 Election poll shows Democrat Joe Donnelly in the lead with a 5 point margin at 48 percent. Republican Jackie Walorski is at 43 percent with the libertarian at just 2 percent.

Three weeks ago our poll showed Donnelly with a 9 point lead, 48 to 39. In the time since outside groups have spent hundreds of thousands of dollars in support of Walorski.

We also have new results in the race here in Indianapolis for the 7th District seat held by Democrat Andre Carson. Carson leads Republican Marvin Scott 50 to 37. Three weeks ago Carson was ahead 50 to 33, so it’s closed a little but Carson appears to be safe.
