Rick Santorum won caucuses in three states last night. Nevertheless he may have no opportunity to win the Indiana GOP Primary.
At the Marion County voter registration office it’s been determined that the Santorum campaign is 24 signatures short of the requirement to make the Indiana ballot. A review is underway. “We’re not trying to keep anyone off the ballot,” says Cindy Mowery of the voter registration office, “and we want to do everything we can to help the candidates.”
But it’s likely Santorum will be ruled ineligible and his campaign is aleady considering legal action. “I anticipate that the Santorum campaign will aggressively pursue all of its options to insure that Rick Santorum is on the Indiana ballot,” says state Senator Mike Delph, a Santorum volunteer.
The problem can be attributed in part to new congressional district lines but the Santorum problem is also something the folks in the voter registration don’t expect. “Not at the national level,” says Mowery.
Santorum could still run a write-in campaign in Indiana.
