Ex-GOP prosecutor running for congress

WARSAW, Ind. (AP) -- The former Republican prosecutor for a northern Indiana county is seeking the Democratic nomination to challenge Republican Rep. Marlin Stutzman in this year's election.

Warsaw attorney David Kolbe is the third candidate to file for the May 8 Democratic primary for northeastern Indiana's 3rd District seat.

Kolbe was the Kosciusko County prosecutor from 1995 through 1998. He tells The Journal Gazette of Fort Wayne that he left the Republican Party in 2004 because he was unhappy with then-President George W. Bush and believes actions pushed by conservative Republicans have led to greater income disparity.

Stutzman so far faces no primary opposition in his re-election bid.

Fort Wayne residents John Roberson and Tommy Schrader are the other Democratic candidates.
