Local unions react to right to work

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTHI) — Unions are speaking-out on how the Right to Work law will affect them.

Yesterday Governor Mitch Daniels signed the controversial bill into law making Indiana the 23rd Right to Work state.

Thursday he said businesses are already interested in Indiana.

We spoke with several unions about the action that they've been protesting for months.

Locally, union leaders say they won't be forced to comply until the fall of 2013 and it's the future that local unions are worried about.

They say keeping wages high for their workers is a major concern for them and our local economy.

"If we don't have the same ability to negotiate for good wages or good benefits for people that work in the Terre Haute area and they have less disposable income; my fear is we'll be making less money and less taxes,” Todd Thacker President of the IBEW 725 said.

Union representatives say they are still learning the details of the law as more information is released.
