Democrat Baron Hill, a member of the Blue Dog Coalition, is seeking reelection to Indiana’s 9th Congressional District. A five term congressman, Baron served the Indiana House of Representatives from 1982 to 1990.
The congressman points out he is a gun owner saying “I am proud to be a lifelong sportsman and gun owner. I am, and have been, strongly opposed to any legislation that would unfairly infringe upon the right of Americans to bear arms.”
Hill emphasizes reducing the country’s dependence on foreign fuels saying that it is crucial to economic and national security.
Though he voted for the health care bill, Hill says the issue was “too important to be determined by politics. I think the more folks learn about the specifics of the bill and how it will improve our current system, the more they will like it.”
Hill addresses immigration in the United States saying the immigration system is broken and needs to be fixed. “I do not support amnesty and do not believe it has place in the overall discussion,” he said.
In fact, Hill sponsored the Alien Smuggling and Terrorism Prevention Act of 2009 which, if enacted, would increase penalties and sentences for those suspected of smuggling illegal immigrants.
