Marlin Stutzman is a fourth-generation farmer. He co-owns Stutzman farms with his father and also owns Stutzman Farms Trucking. He serves as an assistant coach on his son’s Little League teams in Howe, Indiana and is an active member of Community Baptist Church. He enjoys going on missions trips and has served in several foreign countries. Stutzman and his wife, Christy, have two sons.
Stutzman does not support the expansion of government-run health care programs. He believes that the HMO solution from the government has led to many of the problems today. He believes that health care insurers should be in competition for American business. He supports expanding free market solutions such as Health Savings Accounts to include all Americans. He thinks the government should increase tax credits for businesses which provide healthcare.
Stutzman believes the real reason behind government increasing taxes is runaway government spending. He does not support government tax increases. He believes that the government can learn from Hoosiers. He wants to take common sense and apply it to Washington’s budget. He supports common sense spending solutions such as a balanced budget amendment and ending earmark spending. He wants to simplify tax code and work for it to help families with saving and investing for the future. He wants to eliminate the Estate Tax, which he says is commonly referred to as the “death tax”. As a legislator, he has not voted for a tax increase.
Stutzman believes that illegal immigration risks loss of opportunity for others. He also believes it is a serious threat to National Security. He believes border security is a basic function of the federal government, but also thinks that America will not see true immigration reform until Washington’s enforces the laws already in place. He believes that no immigration policy can be formed until the borders are secured. He does not support amnesty or subsidizing social welfare for illegal immigrants.
Stutzman says he will never support federal bailouts for private businesses. He believes the federal government should not be able to choose who succeeds and who fails. He supports America’s free enterprise economy, giving equal opportunity for success or failure. He believes that taking hard-working American’s tax money for bailing out irresponsible companies is wrong. He does not believe this is how a small business or free market economy works.
