Using debate moments to propel his presidential election campaign.

Mitch Daniels

State:Indiana
Current Office:Governor
Party:Republican Party

“My Man Mitch,” or Mitchell Elias Daniels, Jr., is currently in his second term as the 49th Governor of Indiana.

Daniels has pushed for several so-called “controversial” proposals including the state’s adoption of Daylight Saving Time as well as a 1 percent tax increase on individuals earning more than $100,000 a year.

One of his first duties as governor was to create the Indiana Office of Management and Budget, charging the organization with the task of finding inefficiencies and savings within the state government.

During his gubernatorial campaign, Daniels championed job creation and followed up with the creation of the Indiana Economic Development Corporation. He instructed the IEDC to “act at the speed of business, not the speed of government” in order to bring new jobs to the state. IEDC has been credited with creating many jobs, but critics argue these jobs have yet to be made available to Hoosiers.

Daniels signed the Healthy Indiana Plan into law in 2007. The legislation provides health care coverage for 132,000 uninsured Hoosiers.

Daniels’ proposed property tax ceiling passed the Indiana House in early 2008 and will go before voters in Indiana later this year.

Speculation surfaced in 2009 that Daniels might be considering a 2012 Presidential bid. Daniels dismissed the idea at the time but indicated he was open to the idea in February 2010.

He screwed it all up? He created a surplus in our state! Our state is one of very few in the US that isn't in debt right now. Please do some research before calling anyone a screw up.

Our State assets should not be sold. What the Governor needs to focus on is creating jobs for Indiana citizens, instead of casinos giving people addition problem of gambling, welcoming crimes that is pertaining to casinos activities, like sex trafficking, drugs and violene. Our Governor needs to give Indiana workers hope that their is more positive futurte assets in raising families. He needs to supply more factories of making products from Indiana that is an trademark of productions.
